Rabies Control

Each dog and cat must be vaccinated for rabies by a licensed vet by the age of four months and vaccinated annually in accordance with state law.

Animal Bites

Any animal bite must be reported to the Local Rabies Control Authority (call Animal Control Officer Frank Locke at 214-862-4525) within 48 hours of the incident with the following information:

  • Date, time, and location of incident;
  • Description of the animal;
  • Name and address of owner (if known or applicable);
  • Name and number of "victim" and any witnesses;
  • Any other details of the event that the Local Rabies Control Authority requests.

The sooner an incident is reported the better for the safety of the victim and the community, in relation to rabies control and public safety. Rabies virus is a very serious concern.

After Hour emergencies:

  • Animal bites;
  • Animal cruelty;
  • Injured animals;
  • Wildlife inside a residence;.
