Building permits and Inspections

The Building Permit and Inspection Division is established for the purpose of providing minimum standards to safeguard life, safety, property, and the public welfare by regulating and controlling the design, construction, quality of materials, occupancy, use, location, and maintenance of all buildings and structures constructed within the Town of Sunnyvale.

The primary activities of the Building Inspection Division are:

  • Plan review
  • Permit issuance
  • Public consultation
  • On-site inspections to verify compliance with the adopted codes.

The Building Inspection Division also works closely with the Planning Division, Engineering Division, Public Works Department, and the Fire Marshal’s Office to enhance the Town’s overall ability to better serve the citizens of Sunnyvale.

UPDATE: The cutoff time to request an inspection for the next business day is 3:00 pm - inspections are scheduled on business days between 8:00 am and 3:00 pm. Please contact our office for same-day and emergency inspections. Please contact Melinda Diaz, Permit Technician, for information on the process at (972) 203-4188.

CODE ADOPTION

The Town of Sunnyvale has adopted building codes to ensure that buildings constructed in the Town are safe for use by our citizens. The adopted codes are the minimum regulations necessary to ensure that buildings are to an acceptable level of safety and durability.
